Finished painting of B-24; The ‘Feathered Injun’

After reading the book ‘Noodsein boven Zeeland’ by Mark van den Dries, I started a new painting. (ISBN 978-94-6153-251-2, They are working on an English version of the book).
The impressive true story of the crew and air plane of an U.S. B-24 bomber impressed me very much. So much that I painted the last moments of the plane above the Zeeland waterways on canvas. Size 80 x 120 cm, oil paint on Belgian linen.
The author describes how the bomber crashed near Heinkenszand, Zeeland, NL on 18 september 1944 after a mission in the Arnhem, Nijmegen area during Operation Market Garden.
It is a complete book which informs the reader how the crew was received by the resistance and what happened with them during the duration of the war. Very detailed, including maps and pictures and background information. A very impressive true story!
